Over the years we have been catering we have produced many different types of traditional cakes, however our most popular has been a three tiered fruit and fresh cream cake
Traditionally these were called courting cakes, the story goes that it is more a victoria sandwich on the top and and a shortbread on the bottom. There are many variations, but traditionally they are filled with slightly over-ripe strawberries or raspberries and fresh whipped cream
We produce them for weddings of 6 or less when a traditional cake isn’t always required or our clients don’t want a cake full of buttercream.
These cakes are delightful and the above image is our version, three layers, the one below is three layers again with a mix of raspberries and strawberries used as a wedding cake. If you would like two layers one with shortcake the other sponge please let us know. We need about 2 weeks notice.
We were asked in the summer of 2015 to cater for a wedding celebration and naming ceremony at Hartland Abbey, it was a truly lovely day. We took along a Devon cream tea with large kilners holding strawberries. Guests were treated to a glass of prosecco and each glass was adorned with an edible flower.
Here are the photos of the marquee and our catering:
Helen and Jonathan came to see me to plan their wedding in 2014, that day we met in my cafe seems a very long time ago. They reside in Switzerland so everything had to be arranged for them, so all they had to do in true Millbrook Style is turn up and say “I do.”
On Saturday 20th of June they did; all arriving at Millbrook Estate for a fabulous wedding, after the ceremony in the Summer House they ventured down to the Retreat through the Woodland Walk and here are the photos from the day. Flowers were by Alison who is also a Milbrook supplier and were placed in our vintage enamel jugs and large jam jars. All the props are available to hire along with the bunting and crates. We can transform your venue with our props for you or you can DIY.
Congratulations to them both from us all at The VPC.
Our weather held out again today in North Devon as we attended another lovely wedding at Millbrook Estate.
Tania chose our fresh cream and strawberries layered cake. Sometimes when there’s just too much sweet stuff this one is really refreshing and worth paying the little extra for too.
Remember if you order our cakes and scones for your wedding bring a cake box to Devon with you and take it back for a special evening treat with a lovely cuppa!
We can also supply fabulous picnics and breakfast hampers packed with local produce from our brilliant suppliers that can be delivered or you can collect.
Sometimes your best friend can’t be with you for your wedding day and in this case Reg the rabbit came on the cake! We are featuring him today rather than the afternoon tea with locally produced strawberries and cream…….sssshh! Don’t tell the bride & groom!

We have just recently catered for a lovely afternoon tea wedding in North Devon. The sun was shining, the birds singing, lovely music playing and everything was perfect. Even the dogs enjoyed themselves and I believe the odd sandwich too! Here are a handful of photos of the day’s festivities:
We had a lovely afternoon at Exeter Castle recently for a vintage wedding. The bride chose our Afternoon Tea to co-ordinate with her theme of Agatha Christie, each table was named after a novel. Here are some photos of the day.
If you are planning a wedding or themed event at Exeter Castle? Please contact us for more details on how we can help you with props, ideas, china and tea.
We were really pleased to be part of Susan and Andrew’s wedding in the Summer. Susan spent about 12 months creating some lovely items for her day. From hand-making all the pom poms and tieing up the netting backdrop to making the bunting and decorating jam jars, she even had time to create a photo wall. She hired our vintage ladders, voiles, crates and buckets to create some fabulous displays, which you can see in the photos. We supplied our afternoon tea as a buffet followed by a BBQ in the evening. Pretty tea-lights were lit at about 5pm with various colours of glass giving a lovely warm glow.
Below are photos of the day, please contact us if you would like to hire any of the following or ask us to style your wedding for you
Planks of wood
Decorated Jam Jars
and lots more shabby chic and vintage items
