We were back at Millbrook estate celebrating an intimate wedding of 20 for David and Karen last week. They held their reception at the Retreat which is our most favourite places to dress as it’s a hidden gem near two lakes surrounded by trees and only round the corner from us. It’s a blank canvas with so many options. Our couple chose to have a barn dance on the grass for their guests and booked a local band and caller to ensure their feet weren’t all entangled.
Photos below are how we dressed the Retreat with ribbons, roses, netting and ivy. David and Karen also chose to have our vintage ladder and crates with our display items, and the Retreat was internally dressed with bunting, hearts and our jugs full of flowers. We added small jars with battery operated tealights and large hurricane lamps with candles for the evening.

I have always believed that if it rains on your wedding day it’s good luck! On Friday 1st of august it rained, actually North Devon REALLY rained, but this didn’t affect Hannah and Sam’s wedding plans. They were married in a lovely church in Bideford and held their reception at Weare Giffard village hall. They chose blues as their colour theme and hired our vintage china and blue and cream tablecloths. Hannah used simple jam jars with Hydrangeas and Gypsophila to create a country theme.
We supplied our Afternoon Tea with additional canapes. Hannah chose to have a cake table so that her guests could come and go for cakes as they pleased over the afternoon and evening. We brought along our traditional cakes, strawberries in bowls and macrons, and her mum made her wedding cake, the two top layers were biscuit cake and the bottom a lovely rich fruit cake as you can see from the photos it was really lovely and everyone enjoyed a slice.
Below are the photos we took of the hall and tables. Lydia (my assistant) and I had a lovely afternoon looking after all their guests and were really pleased to have been part of their special day.
If you are looking for a traditional village hall venue in north Devon we can highly recommend Weare Giffard Hall.
We were recently asked to cater for another Mad Hatters Tea party. This time for a wedding and the couple chose to have a buffet style so they could all take advantage of the fabulous weather and sit outside. We dressed the Retreat at Millbrook Estate with our bunting and the couple hired our wishing tree for their guests to leave messages on luggage labels. They purchased old books and brought along lots of lovely items to dress the table with and everyone sat around outside and enjoyed the sun. In the evening they had a BBQ.
The following photos were taken just before the wedding party arrived:
