Helen and Jonathan came to see me to plan their wedding in 2014, that day we met in my cafe seems a very long time ago. They reside in Switzerland so everything had to be arranged for them, so all they had to do in true Millbrook Style is turn up and say “I do.”
On Saturday 20th of June they did; all arriving at Millbrook Estate for a fabulous wedding, after the ceremony in the Summer House they ventured down to the Retreat through the Woodland Walk and here are the photos from the day. Flowers were by Alison who is also a Milbrook supplier and were placed in our vintage enamel jugs and large jam jars. All the props are available to hire along with the bunting and crates. We can transform your venue with our props for you or you can DIY.

As I started to climb the steps at Millbrook black clouds loomed above my head, a few drops fell and I waited for the heavens to open; they didn’t!
However, they hung a round for the rest of the afternoon as only black clouds do in North Devon’s microclimate. We were catering for 7 as an afternoon tea and had to set up in the Summer House due to the weather. In fact I am glad we did as at 3.30pm the cloud’s opened and down it came!
I only have the one photo to show you today as the bride chose to save her cake and take it down to the Retreat, play some games and dodge the rain!
Afternoon Tea at Millbrook
We hope they had a really lovely day despite the weather, and look forward to seeing them at our cafe Maybray’s in Barnstaple.
We were back at Millbrook Estate again for another lovely wedding. This time we catered for Afternoon Tea. The Bride looked gorgeous and the weather stayed dry. Down the bottom of the steps waiting to whisk her and her husband for an evening meal with her family was a horse drawn carriage.

There is nothing like a Cream Tea on a wet day in Devon! Thankfully all 90 guests were safely tucked inside the marquee at the Double Locks, Exeter when we catered for Jess and Nick’s wedding. Despite the on and off rain it was a lovely day for them and the photos below show how Jess decorated the marquee and tables naming each one after famous historical couples, and the flowers were in kilner jars. Jess also created a photo wall, which you can see in one of our photos and also used a vintage case for her cards and gifts to be placed in by the door. We then added the china, scones, jam and clotted cream and lashings of tea and coffee. We had a really lovely time with all their friends and family and would like to thank them all for making us feel so welcome and part of their day.

In August we were privileged to cater for an intimate wedding for two, this time in the Secret Garden for a ‘runaway bride wedding’, which is a wonderful and personal day designed just for the couple to get married on their own. Hidden behind a wall is a small patio area, pond and conservatory with lovely views of the lake with the willow tree swooping down to touch the water. Here are a handful of photos.

Saturday was a lovely day in North Devon, not too hot this time so ideal for a wedding at Millbrook Estate. The family had their photos taken and Andrew and his eldest son had arranged for them all to take a ride on our country lanes in a vintage car, all kept secret! When they returned their afternoon tea was waiting for them with extra cake and jelly just for little Ethan, who looked fabulous in his suit!
A couple of weeks after their wedding we received the following to share with you:
“The Vintage Party Company provided Afternoon Tea for us, after our wedding at Millbrook. It was brilliant. Carolyn was extremely helpful before the day, with useful suggestions, accommodating changes and even making the sandwiches to order, just how we wanted them. All the food and drinks, the sandwiches, scones, cakes, homemade lemonade and of course tea were excellent. The vintage china added that special touch. I really can’t praise Carolyn enough. When I stood back and considered the quality, care, attention and quantity(!) that was provided I was stunned it was all done for such a competitive price. She clearly loves her work and it shows. Everything including the cakes were homemade. Their quality and freshness stood shoulders above anything you could buy yourself. The food was excellent. The vintage china added to the brilliance of it all. The vintage tea party added to the memory of a special day and I’d even go on to say it enhanced those memories. Andrew and Sue x.”
